Description
Greek Macedonian phalanx was an infantry formation developed by Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. There was no major difference between the Macedonian and the other Greek city-states phalanxs except of sarisa, a pike, aproximetely 13–21 ft long, been used from Macedonians, against the usual spears.
The great sarisa length combined with clever military tactics based on this, allowed king Phillip to conquer most of the other Greek city states and several barbaric lands. His son Alexander, perfected the Macedonian phalanx and with all other Greeks except Spartans - even defeated, they were too proud to follow another leader- managed to conquer most of the known world of his era.
