Description

Am not usually one to play with color saturation, like to present things as they were. However I did play with it a little on this one to bring out the rain falling in the distance. Have talked about the rise in elevation in the area and a bit about the larger Colorado Plateau, covering multiple states. These thunderstorm cells here are running up against the Paunsaugunt Plateau (home of Bryce Canyon), and the mighty Aquarius Plateau, both are just north in Utah. Am standing several kilometers into Arizona here. Canyon country can be dangerous in this type of weather pattern. Flash flooding can occur in a canyon far away and yet arrive where your hiking to sweep you off to an uncertain fate. It is always prudent to watch where isolated storms are occurring. Even more so know the canyons around you and their drainage, it is not enough to research just the hike your taking! Take the POV here, where I'm standing is quite simply the water outlet off of this mesa. The plain of sandstone below is water worn rather than wind blown. Am not concerned with the T-cells at the moment because I know the Paria River is between me and the plateau's north(drainage is south to the Paria). Just have to keep an eye on them staying isolated. If the storm front was to build any stronger and start raining in the lower elevation here, then I would be concerned. Everything here drains north to the Paria River. Lucky for me the storms stayed isolated, and I did not have to cut the hike short. Many textures here including that honey combed looking rock in the lower left frame, recommend the full view. To the kind souls that leave their mark whether a comment, rating, or save the image as a fav, you are very much appreciated, thank you!!! Thank you all that viewed my last image below. thumb_2262774.jpg

That is very interesting; I would have thought that was wind blown rather than water carved! Nice shot!

Fantastic landscape. All the textures and shapes and patterns make for numerous possibilities for closeup images. And that honeycomb stone makes me think of a fossil. Interesting information on hiking in this area. Its like planning a military campaign.

I love the color sat--as you said really played up the storm--and I do enjoy weather especially thunder storms. Heal the earth clean the air and the wind and rain feel so good against the skin--you once again captured the mood of this perfectly!
