Description
Shade is a rare commodity at Red Rock Canyon - most of the plants are low scrub. I was sitting on the ground when I took this shot to make the bush look taller.
The sun and heat can be major difficulties for visitors that don't come prepared. The day I visited it was a very nice 71 but for most of the tourist season temps can hit 90 degrees or more. One of the volunteer docents told me that heat related problems occur quite frequently during that time. If you're planning on any hiking you need proper sun protection including a hat and sunscreen, lots of water and appropriate footwear.
