Description

I always wanted to do a tribute to Jack Pierce (the make-up man) and Boris Karloff (the actor) from the original 1931 film Frankenstein. The two men collaborated a great deal to get the look of the monster that we still today associate with Mary Shelley's book. I like to imagine what it must have been like to sit in the audience and see the face of the monster emerge from the shadows for the first time. While tame by today's standards, the monster's appearance back them must have been shocking. Jack Pierce TRANSFORMED a man into something much more. Karloff's subtle acting, in an age when over-acting was the norm, saves the picture and made the monster so much more frightening. The figure used here was V4, not M4. I used most of my own morphs to change her into the monster. Another TRANSFORMation if you will. I tried to get the look of Karloff in the face, but still need to do some more work. I started on this a few weeks back and told myself I would publish a picture by Halloween as a work in progress. Maybe I'll work on her some more next year. I did do some post work on the image. I wanted to give credit to Blacksmith3D's Morph program. This program cost me about $25 but allows marvelous morphs to be made provided the original mesh is fine enough to allow it. I would call it a poor man's ZBrush for the way it allows one carve and work the surfaces. Thanks
