Description

Anas americana. For the past two days, I have been out hunting Sandhill Cranes. Didn't have a lot of luck. I saw about 700, I'd guess, but they were at least 1/2 mile away, maybe more. (That's why yesterday's picture was later than usual). The first place I went was Whitewater Draw, which is supposed to be THE place to find the cranes. Even with my biggest lens, I could barely get recognizable pictures. So today I went to Willcox, because I had information they had been showing up there as well. I totally dipped there. But I got these beautiful ducks. I think they are my favorite ducks. They have a very soft call which I absolutely adore. There are recordings online. I was taking photos of birds in flight as I often do, and this one "just happened". You take what you can get, when you have to hand-hold and hand-focus in a hurry. :) I also got some other good photos of birds in flight, which I will share. I think I'm getting better at it.

Very nice Pat! They all look to be smiling too. Hope you get lucky with the Sandhill Cranes. I've only managed to get them in the air, never on the ground. I love the sound of them flying overhead, and often hear them after dark. In the day they also have some crzy flying patterns.
