Description

Another beautiful day with golden light of Autumn and backdrop of trees for another in my Golden October series. The great horned owl is probably best known for the large tufts of feathers on its head that look like horns, but in fact has nothing to do with hearing, and more to do with communication, or expressing mood. Nobody really knows. It has big cat-like eyes and brown white, grey, and black markings that look like the bark of a tree. These markings help camouflage it in the woods. It has a wing span of over four feet and it is about two feet in height. A powerful predator quite able to kill prey as large as ducks. Full size highly recommended..

Owls are the amazing birds, their silent flight, their awesome vision, and I love their night songs. We here several at the Hollow.
