Description

Rabual in New Britain has such a splendid harbour that its possession became a focus of military activity in both world wars. The other day some naval survey ships clearing unexploded munitions from the New Britan coast found a submarine wreck. Hopes were immediately raised that it might be the long-lost Australian submarine AE1, though closer examination confirmed it was Japanese craft from WW2. The final resting place of sons and husbands from other families nevertheless. Which leaves open the mystery of the British-built "E-class" submarine, AE1. That Royal Australian Navy boat and its crew of 35 Royal Navy and Royal Australian Navy submariners vanished without trace on patrol off the coast of New Britain in the early weeks of the First World War, during operations to seize the Kaiser's territories in the Pacific. For a while there it seemed that the wait might be over so I thought I'd put my AE1 model through Vue once more. But alas its out there still, somewhere, awaiting another chance encounter with modern hydrography. Submarine, watch crew (David 3 etc) and wake all rendered in Vue 8 Esprit. Thanks for viewing...
