Description

Mars Terraforming: The Growth of Industry This is an on-going series -- previous posts are linked below. I am putting together a mission cycle chart and along the way I found I wanted to illustrate in some way the scale of the logistics and industrial complex required to sustain and drive forward an effort to terraform Mars. I had began work on a composition showing assembly of the large Orion ground-launchers – and this led (perhaps sidetracked me) into working out illustrations of the peripheral consequence of the endeavor. The spacecraft themselves (with their enormously complex nuclear thermal drive systems, life support, massive Orion nuclear pulse platforms -- not to mention the impulse charges required to propel them across the solar system) are merely the tip of the iceberg – the scope of the infrastructure required would become (perhaps in equal measure) a part of the transformation of the red planet. Resources: Stonemason’s Greeble City Blocks II. Dystopian Heavy Hauler (modified with a wheeled chassis of my own design). My own custom lighting rig and atmospheric effects imposed on the Terra Dome system. Extensive post-processing in Photoshop. As always thank you for your interest, thoughtful comments, and encouragement.
