Description

I captured this Statue (or Monument) at the Navy Pier on Lake Michigan in Chicago in January 2011 and then postworked it to within an inch of its life to create some mood. I have no idea what it honors - I was too cold to read... :):) Chip and Corey will know exactly how cold it was that weekend! Thank you for popping in and for your very welcome comments and favs on my last upload "Room With a View". Hugs Carin xx

My money is on Great Lakes mariners. I'm certain it has nothing to do with the Gorton (R) fisherman or regular Navy [lame attempt at humor]. Nonetheless, a striking image. You done good. Weesel high-five to you.

I have seen several statues so similar to this, and I think maybe this one as well, on the Great Lakes and the Atlantic seaboard. Not so many on the Gulf Coast or the Pacific coast. Mostly I've seen monuments with Saints and anchors there. I love the flat lake, the lonely expanse. Gives honor to those lost on Lake Michigan.

Grew up in New England looking at a similar statue honoring those that go down to sea. The Great Lakes are just as dangerous as the open ocean. Especially this time of year! The mood is captured perfectly in this!

Stellar choice, Carin! The b&w is most fitting here, and sets a very special mood.... With November 11, coming up... it definitely makes us all stop and remember. Excellent presentation and artpiece!

Super clarity and I am guessing it is in memory of the sailors that lost their lives sailing the great lakes.
