Nalieth et sa cousine Laerlinn étaient deux Elfes des Havres Gris qui alllaient rendre visite à leur parentèle de Rivendell. En traversant la forêt qui longe la Route de l'Est, elles furent attaquées par un troll. Laerlinn fut assommée par les gros poings de la créature, tandis que Nalieth eut la jambe brisée. Le troll chargea Nalieth sur son épaule et la rapporta dans son antre, prévoyant d'aller chercher l'autre Elfe inconsciente quelque temps plus tard. Heureusement, entretemps, Gilferon, alors simple sergent, venait de débuter une patrouille sur la route. Il trouva Laerlinn étendue inconsciente et parvint à la ranimer. Elle lui expliqua ce qui s'était passé. Gilferon décida alors de pister le troll jusqu'à son repaire, et profitant de l'effet de surprise, il réussit à le tuer et à libérer Nalieth. Il la ramena jusqu'au château où elle resta plusieurs semaines. Et tous les jours, il lui rendit visite, et peu à peu, Nalieth fut charmée par sa sollicitude, tandis que lui admirait sa beauté et sa joie de vivre malgré l'épreuve. Lorsque Nalieth fut complètement soignée, elle reprit sa route vers Rivendell. Mais arrivée là, elle regretta l'absence de Gilferon à ses côtés. Elle retourna au château humain, et elle avoua son amour à son sauveur. Les noces furent célébrées quelques mois plus tard, et de cette union naquit un fils nommé Hallathorno. Nalieth and her cousin Laerlinn were two Elves from the Grey Haven who were going to visit their kin in Rivendell. While crossing the forest along the East Road, they were attacked by a Troll. Laerlinn was knocked out by the heavy fists of the beast, whereas Nalieth had her leg broken. The Troll put Nalieth on his shoulder and brought her to his lair, foreseeing to bring back the other Elf later. Fortunately, in between, Gilferon, still a sergeant at that time, had just begun a patrol on the Road. He found Laerlinn laying unconscious and managed to reanime her. She explained him what had happened. Gilferon then decided to track the Troll to its lair, and thanks to the surprise effect, he managed to kill it and free Nalieth. He brought her back to the castle where she stayed several weeks. He payed her visits every day, and slowly, Nalieth became charmed by his concern, while he was admiring her beauty and her joyfulness in her ordeal. When Nalieth became fully healed she went again to Rivendell. But there she missed Gilferon. She went back to the Humans' castle and confess her love to her savior. Their wedding was celebrated a few months later, and she later gave birth to a son called Hallathorno.
