Description

With just a hand full of guesses we have a winner! Mike has guessed a whale bone and I do believe he is correct. It looks like the Scapula to me. Thanks for those speculations from the hand full that participated, I enjoyed them much! :~) To the kind souls that leave their mark whether a comment, rating, or save the image as a fav, you are very much appreciated, thank you!!! I somehow missed your first post, but this is very interesting. You don't see a lot of whalebone washed ashore I don't think. Quite a find; I think I would have kept it.

Oh dear. When you said it wasn't generally found on the beach, I thought you meant they were more common elsewhere, not that they were a rare find! LOL! So here I was, trying to think of non-marine-related options. Ah well. I liked the butterfly idea anyway. :P

Oh, pooh, I missed the whole thing. I thought it was a giant shell from the thumbnail. How extraordinary to just find it sitting in the sand. Great find.
