Description

(Just to let everyone know, I didn't take the photo. It's public Domain.) Dedicated to Donnie Ray Connors, killed Republic of Vietnam 1973, to those Marines guarding Heavens Gates and to those serving today. We have a tradition in the Corps and anyone may take part. We wish each other a "Happy Birthday" on this day every year. Where celebrations are held, both the oldest and youngest Marines receive the first cake. The oldest Marine passes the piece to the youngest "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they make a difference in the world. But the Marines don't have that problem. Ronald Reagan 1985 The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!" ~ First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, 1944 The wonderful love of a beautiful maid, The love of a staunch true man, The love of a baby, unafraid, Have existed since time began. But the greatest of loves, even greater than that of a mother, Is the tender, passionate, infinite love, of one drunken Marine for another. "Semper Fidelis" "The title "Marine" is earned upon graduation from boot camp. It isn't willed to us; it isn't a gift. It is not a government subsidy. Few can claim the title; no one can take it away. It is ours forever." oohrah and Semper Fi Brothers. Note: The Iwo Jima Memorial in Washington DC. More US Marines earned the Medal of Honor on Iwo Jima than in any other battle in US History. In 36 days of fighting there were 25,851 US casualties (1 in 3 were killed or wounded). Of these, 6,825 American boys were killed. Virtually all 22,000 Japanese perished.

Amazing - similar sculpture groups exist in Russia too (with different background - WWII, of course).
