Description

The Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) is a large black bird. Unlike other more popular, captivating water birds, the cormorant is viewed by many as a relatively uncharismatic species. Maligned for centuries and persecuted for their fisheating habits, the cormorant has recently become the center of controversy in regions where numbers have rapidly increased. Expanding populations have raised concerns about adverse impacts cormorants might have on other bird and fish species of special concern, declines in local fish populations, and destruction of vegetation at nesting areas. Specific socioeconomic concerns include economic losses from depredation at aquaculture facilities, potential impacts on fishing-related businesses, loss of fish in private lakes, and damage to trees on private property. Superb capture and notice how low in the water it sits. No wonder they have to dry their wings out.

I don't know if he captured any fish, but you made a fine capture. We only get a few here at any one time, and we don't have a fishing industry, so I enjoy these birds.
