Description
Just trying to choreograph some aerial ballet. I'm fascinated by the Gotha GV bomber. When I look at it I see a lumbering colossus and have a hard time imagining the imagination of the designer seeing it actually fly. Although it had three guns, I doubt that it was any match for a swarm of S.E.5a's. (This is a fanciful confrontation for the sake of "art". Ace Edward Mannock who flew this particular bird never downed a Gotha.)

Keep experimenting I could look at this stuff all day...an aerial dual and I'm going to use the word 'beautiful' as well as the obligatory awsome! The best thing with WWI dogfights, no need for motion blur, they didn't move fast enough.. The Gotha, what can you say? I'm pretty sure that translates into English as 'The sitting duck', but that's just a guess. SE5A.... The dogs b*^locks. 'Mick' Mannock, now there was a troubled soul, haunted by the ghost of every man he killed, and the fear of going down 'in flames'.(which he ultimately did). Marvelous post, as said,do as many as you like, I'm loving them.......(might even join you over the frontlines).

Beautifully done, you say these are free models, any chance you can remember where you got them?

fine work, as usual, bud! and thanks for reminding me of Mick Mannock.... quite a guy, as were they all in the First Go-Around!

Great work and render. Bit of a challenge designing bombers.
wingnut55
good pov and composition, sketchup seems to create very clean lines.

Again a great composition in the air!! 5+

I like such aviation picture. Great. @neiwil: Gotha is the name of the producer and is the name of the city where they produced the aircrafts. ;-) But yes, they where sitting ducks from today's point of view.

Thanks for all the great comments! I think it's ironic that Mannock was purportedly shot down by ground fire...go figure. For all his paranoia, I'll bet he never counted on that one. As Neil pointed out...there is no "need" for motion blur because of the speed of some of these babies. In fact, I've always loved the tales of crew throwing bottles and what not at other planes in the air. Try doing that in an F-86 to say nothing of an F-22. I appreciate the era because of the primitive "in touch" with the roots aspect. My idea of flying. London224 said it well in another post...to paraphrase...it's the object nearby that give reference to the action. Slow and low does that superbly!

I always prefer prop driven aircraft to modern jets. You seem to be one of the few artists on here doing WW1 aviation so thanks. Love to smoke trail too. Stunning!

Haven't been to your gallery for a long time...this is excellent. Your scenes are always crisp and clear. Particularly like how you've woven the clouds into this presentation...looks very familiar to me as a non-instrument rated pilot of light aircraft always interested in staying clear of clouds:)

A really proffesional image if I ever saw one!!! Great job!

Excellent old warbirds there... Those Sketch-up recruits work out pretty well!
