It's insidious, cruel and a constant reminder to us all of how as a species we are just how frail we can be when struck by this. Many fight it and survive and move on but many many more do not, some fight it, some become resigned to it and its horrid grip. We fight it on many levels and there seems to betimes where its pushed back from the threshold, yet time & time again it gains a foothold and and seems to come back with a vengence. It has remained with us forever & a day and will do so until that day does arrive and our species finds a way to expunge it from our life.
