Hello everywhere! While working at the spanish pics, there is a little time for something new. Please let me invite you to a little journey through SAXONY, one of our 17 provinces. This journey starts in the north, then we visit Dresden, their capital, and finish in the so called "Saxonian Switzerland", one of the finest landscapes Germany can offer. Once Saxony was an own kingdom and was reigned by the noble family of Wettin, and so it is no wonder that the country has lots of chateaus. This here, Moritzburg, is situated about 30 kilometern north of Saxony`s capital Dresden, were their kings lived. Moritzburg was built by herzog Moritz of Saxony in 1542 as a hunter`s castle in renaissance style with four towers. In 1723, under the reignship of August dem Starken (August the Strong), the elector of Saxony and King of Poland, the old chateau was strongly changed into a baroque chateau as we see it till today. A catholic chapel was built nearby; August the Strong had to change religion to catholicism to get the crown of Poland. Moritzburg was owned by the house Wettin even when the german emperium failt; after WW II Saxony felt under communistic reignship and Wettin lost all its privilegs, territories and houses. Members of the house Wettin dug many of their treasures in the surrounding woods - they were nearly all found by the russian Red Army. In around 1995 they could find a part of the old Wettin treasure in the woods. (>10%) It could now been seen in the chateau. Moritzburg is now a museum, a restaurant, an event place for classical concerts and stuff like this and a magnet for tourists, of course. Hope you enjoy this story. I find it sad that it is now turned into a tourist property. It was built to host refined and eloquent guests, not a spot for gawking, but the fact that it still stands well loved and maintained is the price you pay now to preserve heritage. I find this wonderful - the low mist and the distance of the shot still makes it seem "unobtainable" to the average person.
