Description

Australia has the third largest area of mangroves in the world after Indonesia and Brazil. Our island continent, is surrounded by approximately 11,000 km of mangrove-lined coast, being around 18% of the coastline. Mangroves are uniquely adapted trees and larger shrubs that inhabit the tidal sea edge. *** My son Jeff and I had to fill in an hour, waiting for the brakes on our Subi to be fixed ... What better thing to do and filling in an hour, than going across the road, to the Tweed river (the local estuary and mangroves) and trying a spot of 'Mangrove Jack' fishing - and moi just taking pix! (I haven't really got the patience, nor the inclination to fish - but I love seafood!) There is something really fascinating and mysterious about Mangroves, especially for this former City-girl and with a little digifiddle, even more so! Cheers Brigitte (aka blondeblurr)

I love your digifiddle here, the whole result looks stunning. A great way to wait for the brakes to be fixed, to take photos. I like the blue flower looking thingy in the front it gives a great focal point.

Very cool, Brigitte. Chip should see this. It has just the right amount of alien atmosphere that would inspire him. Spectacular post work and the addition of the flower is the cherry on top.

11,000 km of mangrove-lined coast, you say? That's quite a stretch for sure. So, with time to kill waiting for your Subaru to be repaired, there's nothing like blithely sauntering into a mangrove, many of which are inhabited by dangers yet unknown, young lady. Anyway, a beautiful composition of textures and blue and pink colors in this sterling shot, BB.

this is so... so... cool...to heck with fishing, just hang about in the wild, looking for dragonflys, mudskippers, maybe the occasion starling....get your feet wet, enjoy the coolness of the ocean breeze.... near heaven for me... (I'm land locked in a frozen world...) seriously cool image!

If you hadn't said what this was, I'd still be guessing! I've only been to the pacific once, and that was north of Prince George BC...no mangroves there, just driftwood and pine-conifer trees.

are 'mangroves' like man-bags, and man-caves? (Yeah, probably not...) You did great postwork on this, bringing out the sharp linear detail on the mangrove stalks (or leaves, whatever they are) (I don't know much about mangroves!), and making a powerful contrast of deep greenish-blues against reds and pinks---almost orange pinks. (Opposites on the COLOR WHEEL! TA-DA!!!) (Complementary colors, in other words, the colors that naturally clash and create energies. The Impressionists, you may know, used them a lot to create a sense of 'light' and electricity in their paintings.) Really bold. Really eye popping.

And compositionally, you have that lone flower sticking up: This has an avant garde feeling, like it's part of an avant garde store window, or a concert poster or something like that. Really well done. And now I know what a mangrove is. Terrific job on this, Brigitte.
