Description

The Common Crane (Grus grus), also known as the Eurasian Crane, is a bird of the family Gruidae, the cranes. It is a large, stately bird and a medium-sized crane at 100â��130 cm (40â��52 in) long, with a 180â��240 cm (71â��96 in) wingspan and a weight of 4.5â��6 kg (10â��13.2 lbs). It is grey with a white facial streak and a bunch of black wing plumes. Adults have a red crown patch. It has a loud trumpeting call, given in flight and display. La Grue cendrée (Grus grus) est un grand oiseau, faisant partie des grues. Ce sont des oiseaux puissants qui migrent sur environ 2 500 km de distance, ils passent l'hiver en Afrique du Nord ou en Europe méridionale (au sud de l'Espagne). Les vols migratoires sont en forme de V ou de Y. En vol, les grues cendrées crient, la plupart du temps, environ toutes les 10 à 15 secondes. Le chant, un "grou" sonore, s'entend jusqu'à quatre kilomètres. C'est une particularité anatomique du bréchet de la grue qui explique son exceptionnelle puissance.
