Description

...there is little or no argument in the USA today concerning who has been the country's greatest President. Although Washington was our first President, President Abraham Lincoln won the Civil War, maintained the Union, freed the slaves and put the country on the path to modernization. ...after our visit to Chicago in October we drove back to Kansas City through Springfield, Illinois. Springfield is the capital of the State of Illinois. It is also where Abraham Lincoln practiced law prior to being elected President in 1860. ...TOP PHOTO shows the only house ever owned by Abraham Lincoln. Abraham and Mary Lincoln spent 17 of their happiest years here. This is the home where their three youngest sons were born and raised prior to the family moving, in March 1861, into the White House in Washington, D.C. ...BOTTOM PHOTO shows a park sign with a copy of a photo of the Lincoln house taken in May 1865 and mournfully decorated for his funeral and subsequent burial in Springfield's Oak Ridge Cemetery. It looks pretty modern for its time. Nice work, Reagan would be in my list of the greatest as well. We could sure use someone like them in the White House today. Nice work.

Terrific top photo in this keen kollage of the humble home of Mr and Mrs Lincoln, Bill, which appears to have been renovated since his death. The bottom photo nicely restored for presentation. Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan are on my greatest Presidents list, as well as Abe Lincoln. But, Obama and Carter, who?

The before and after together makes this presentation; it's still a beautiful house. Does anyone live there, or is it now a memorial?

Great presentation Bill. I think some Southerners would disagree with you on Lincoln being the greatest president. Some still hold a grutch!
