Description

Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in the North America. If this lake were to drain into the state of California, we would have 14" of water over the entire state. That is a lot of water. It gives an idea of how deep and large this beautiful lake really is. It once boasted the clearest water in the world, but man has taken the toll for messing it up, of course. The Lake Tahoe area had a building moratorium to try to preserve the lake, but large corporations bought their right to build anything they wanted to. Only ordinary folk like ourselves were not allowed to build, and to add on to existing buildings on their property made for a lot of red tape. In many cases the people just could not build at all. Now the moratorium is soon up for a vote, and Nevada may vote against extending it, which will cause a building frenzy and further destroy the clarity of the water of Lake Tahoe. Wonderful shot - I love the Emerald Bay area - the hike down to the water ( and back up ) is great exercise. And there are some nice trails along the lake, too. Sad to think of a a building frenzy if the moratorium vote goes the wrong way.

Beautiful shot through the trees. Interesting info about the size and depth - thats a lot of water. Not so nice to hear about the building conflicts.
