Description

After Panama Viejo had been sacked by the Welsh privateer Henry Morgan and totally destroyed by fire in 1671, the city was rebuilt a few kilometers to the west. It is known today as Casco Viejo, a walled city, that is being gentrified. In the meantime, the old site of Panama Viejo was forgotten for more than 200 years and the modern City of Panama expanded and developed around it. Fortunately somebody realized the historic significent of the old site and the ruins were preserved and it became a UNESCO Heritage Site. There is some restoration going on, but not much. Always find a place like this to have a real aire of mystery and with the history of violence, I don't think I'd like to spend a night within these ruins...could be a bit creepy...Oooooooooo:)

Great looking capture! This works for me, shows more the feel of a sacked City.. Shame the money doesn't seem to be there, or has 'wondered' into someone's pocket... But we won't go there....
