awesome. But, if memory serves. During the 1701 one encounter in the episode "Balance of Terror" The romulans had not as of yet attained warp drive technology. This was later gained in an unstable alliance with the klingons, which was short lived. in exchange for warp drive, the romulans gave up cloaking technology. just an fyi. Yeah, I'm a trek geek.

Great comment! Who knows for sure. There has been a great deal of debate over this for some years now. For example in "Balance of Terror” Scotty states the Bird of Prey is running on impulse and be easily outrun. This does not necessarily require that Romulans did not have warp capability. Here are some strong arguments supporting early Romulan warp capability. Ex Astris Scientia Ex Astris Scientia I have got to get a life!

Great fleet scene! In regards to the other comments on this page, I don't see how the Romulans could have fought an interstellar war without warp drive. On the oldest set of blueprints made of the classic-era Romulan Bird of Prey, the nacelles are labelled as warp engines. We also see Romulan ships located in star syetems requiring warp travel during the show "Enterprise." I am assuming the Romulan ship during the classic era could not use it warp engines because the of the tremendous power consumption needs of both the cloaking device and plasma bolt weapon. I guess I need to get a life too! :-)
