Description

How on Earth could something so beautiful be so painful. I'm not sure but they drew some gorgeous birds to them. I was too stunned to grab my camera when the hummingbird had shown up....that's the second time that happened. Yea all weight restrictions are gone.

Oh, I love these. Thistles (even the sorts of plants that aren't actually thistles, but bear that name anyway) are among my favorites! This is a perfect example of what I like. The spines/spikes are well captured here and the color is brilliant! I love it when the blossoms open fully and all sorts of prickle-resistant insects come around and refuse to pose for the camera. This is well seen. Perfect.

They really are sharp! I had a neighbor once who wanted to dry some for ... whatever. I was about to pull weeds in the garden, and she asked if I could save her some thistle. !!! Okay! So I put a tomato cage around a big one and let it grow tall. Carefully cut stems for her (gloves and clippers!), and put them in a paper bag with flowers in perfect condition. Yanked the now five-foot-high weed out and got rid of it before it went to seed. Took her the paper bag. Yikes! She didn't know they were prickly, and didn't want them after all! LOL! A couple of friends asked me, during those months, why I was growing a thistle in a tomato cage like it was special. It was fun, though, and they really are beautiful. I love your picture, and thanks for the fun memory! :)

Getting better and better every day? Fantastic! This really is very pretty but I suppose you could put an eye out if you're not careful.
