Description
Thank you for stopping by and taking a look at my gallery.
As seen in one of those over the top shops at the entrance to Chinatown.
the Dance of the Seven Veils (usually described as danced by Salome) is one of the elaborations on the biblical tale of the execution of John the Baptist. Details enriching the story in later Christian mythology include providing a name for the dance, and describing the purpose of the dance as being to inflame King Herod with incestuous desire so that he would treat John as she wished.

I saw a great contemporary ballet aomw years ago called the 7 Silences of Salome, where 7 men each wearing 7 garments did 7 solos in which they slowly undressed. I think you would have enjoyed it as much as I did!

This is a marvelous capture and I love the sensuality in it. Statues (when carved [or cast] correctly) capture so much and this is no exception. The colors are wonderful, and I love any reference to the 7 Veils...I find the original story to be a bit sordid and slanderous, but hey...that's Biblical stuff for you, but that's probably why it's fodder for such intriguing art today. Now, I'd like to actually see the aforementioned dance...I suppose it gets quite juicy once veil number 5 comes into play. This is a great shot. I love the fact that no matter where you are, the local Chinatown always has something to see.
