Description

This is one of my favourite woodland types. This is full of Silver birch and a scattering of mature Oaks. That is why the Lesser spotted woodpecker is found here. The birches are short lived and leave loads of decaying trunks. These make for easy chiselling out for nestholes and to find food. I know Andrea likes the winter trees as much as I do, especially these Silver birches shining in the sun.

Fabulous, Kevin! I do love these woods so much, and the beauty of sunshine on the trunks in winter makes up for the chilly temperatures. I don't think I have ever seen a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. We occasionaly get the greater at the feeders. Thankyou!
