Description
Darkness was quickly rolling across the valley as the ceremony drew to an end. It had been warm until the sun went down, but the air soon turned chill. In spite of that, as soon as the ceremony was over, Magnus couldn't get out of the shirt and boots Mab made him wear fast enough. The cold didn't bother him. Neither did the heat, and he hated having to wear clothes at all.
He was just about to try to find Moira, when she appeared behind him and tapped him on the back. "Shhhh", she said crooking her finger at him to follow her. They managed to make it away without anyone noticing. "Papa, there's a man up the top o' the hill there. E's come ta see ya. Hurry, git up there - quick!"
"Ya givin' me orders now, child?" he laughed.
"Ye'll see, Papa. Go!"
The two men embraced and Beren riffled his hand through Magnus' hair like he used to do when Magnus was a wee lad. He hated it then, but now it was welcome. "Allo, ya big ugly boy," Beren grinned. "Lemme look at ya! Damn, tis good ta see ya arter all these years!"
Magnus couldn't stop looking at him. He hadn't changed a bit since the last time he saw him - except for the tattoos on his arms. Same yellow glowing wolf-eyes and handsome face. Beren was born a were. He'd had over-sized canines since Magnus could remember - many yarens before he was turned. They just got longer then. Weres ran on Beren's father's side of the family. It wasn't all that unusual for the Mountain-Folk, because they called The Wolf their ancestor. "Ya ain't changed at all, Beren. Not a whit!"
"Comes wi' bein' a vampire." Beren ran his thumb across Magnus' cheek. "The yarens ain't been good ta ya, 'ave they brother?"
"Noooo, not particularly - but long's I got me family an' they love me, I don' care. Been too long away from all of 'em...includin' you, Beren. I used ta keep thinkin' ye'd come find me ag'in when Ma took me away."
Beren's lips compressed into a frown. "I wanted to - trust me, I did. But Ma made me promise ta stay clear o' ya an' never come see ya ag'in. Guess it don't much matter now, does it?"
Magnus sighed and hugged his brother again, shaking his head. "Too much o' thet in this family o' ours. Secrets an' missin' persons. Sick of it, I am. No more!! I got ta warn ya though, Lady Brianna...who is Angus' mother by the bye - another one o' them secrets - is real edgy 'bout you an' Ursala joinin' us. So...ya know.... Would' nae hurt if ya both buttered 'er up a bit."
"Ochhh, I'm good et that," Beren laughed. "So's ma Queen. No problem. She'll find us completely charmin' and harmless - promise!" He looked up at the sky and the clouds rolling in down the valley. "Looks like a storm comin' in, eh?"
"So it does," Magnus said. "Let's go get yer Lady an' get on ta the house for it hits!" They started down the hill. "I wanta thank ya fer lookin' out fer ma little girl." They both saw her running toward them. "Thet one there...."
"Ya mean thet little whelp o' yers comin' at us?" Beren laughed. "Twas ma pleasure, brother. Someone had to, ya know. Think nothin' of it."

"I think we should," Mab snapped at Alduin. She was back to that. "Why? He's already got enough on 'is mind with 'is new responsibilities. Moira told 'im he were gonna get trained. What 'e don't know is that we have ta take 'im back ta the Land o' Men fer that. I plan on lettin' 'im know tonight Mab. Enough is enough. He'll learn soon enough what 'e is." Alduin stopped, noticing Magnus and Moira coming down from the hill with another man - a stranger. "Who's that wi' Magnus." "I dunno," Mab said looking at them with her 'other sight'. "Ohhhhhhh. Ochhh, Alduin!" Then she began to laugh. "I'll let Magnus tell ya who 'e is." She laughed some more. Mab had never met her husband's older brother, but she knew about him. There wasn't much Mab didn't know. If she wasn't told, or didn't overhear it, she 'saw' it with her second sight. She also knew of the mysterious Beren who had befriended her daughter and often wondered if they were one in the same. It wasn't a real common name, but not so unusual amongst the Bean-Sidhe. Moira runnin' up there - still such a child she was, in so many ways. She'd always been her father's girl. She still adored Magnus, but Angus now owned her heart. Such a big heart. Truth be told Moira loved everyone - just some more than others...except Mog and that sister of his. Mab turned back to Alduin. "A'right druid. Ya made yer point regardin' Angus. This new wrinkle in things almost assures he will indeed know soon enough what 'e is." "Why ya say thet, Mab?" "Cos that man there knew Dermit. That's why. Brothers of a different sort, they were. Why ya think I suggested we put Dermit in Brianna's path in the first place? 'E were just the sort o' warrior we need fer this an' Dermit's son inherited 'is father's heart an' courage. We'll soon see if 'e inherited anythin' else from 'im." "But ya knew Dermit di' nae have much longer on this earth, Mab." "Aye, but 'e made 'er happy fer a time an' she still loves 'im ya know - his memory, anyway." She laid her hand on Aludin's shoulder. "I know ya don' wanta hear thet, but tis so, Alduin." "Trust me...I know," Alduin said with a sad smile. "She still has dreams about 'im...Dermit." ***** Thanks for your lovely comments and for stopping by dear friends! Have a beautiful weekend!! Rayvn

Excellent image. I'll bet you had some fun pairing up those sturdy warriors. You really convey how giddy Moira can get. Great render and nice framing. The story continues to snare me in. What else was Dermit? This should be interesting, to say the least. Excellent writing, the accents add some excellent spice and flavor. Awesome work.

Wonderful! The image is fun, but the writing really draws me in. This is becoming quite the tangled web! Love it - keep it coming!

Oh wow, your sure know how to keep us on the edge! So many words being said and yet nothing is defined. You weave a wonderful web of mystery my friend. So much to look forward to: the meeting of Mab and Ursala, a powerful lightworker and darkworker in the same room... I know from experience how interesting that can be; and all this dancing around of what Angus really is and what his father was and how Mab and Alduin have been in cahotes for ages in the deal. This is not the reunion I expected cause Angus has not had time to be with his mom yet either. But it is good to see the brothers connect on good terms.
