Description

Another from Iceland. This time of a plane which made a forced landing on one of the beaches. I'm sure someone will be able to name the type. To me, it looks like a DC3 Dakota (having built an Airfix one about 100 years ago).

I'm not up on my plane species, but I can say that this is a stunning, completely unexpected shot. I have yet to visit Iceland and I definitely want to...I mean, I'd go for the people, the culture, that black liquor they make...but ultimately, I'd go just to see the land itself! This is a brilliant, moody shot. So bleak. That soil looks volcanic! Brilliant.

A tad past restoration, but I'm surprised it's still not trying to fly. Those things just never give up.

I'm sure there are lots of panels and parts that the Alberta Aviation Museum would love to have, and are still salvagable!

Looks like the C-47 variant. Was it taken near Sólheimasandur on the south coast by any chance? Love these shots of old derelicts. Excellent shot and very poignant end to one of the great classic airliners!
