Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.
For those looking at my gallery, enjoy it and feel free to leave comments and sitemail! Good day to all!

If it were anybody else I'd say it's kind of odd to be listening to spooky violins on a good friend's birthday, but what I know of you two makes it no surprise to me at all. The photo is a very nice tribute to him, and it sounds like you guys had a very nice weekend, indeed.

A neat composition, Chip.:)

A multilevel shot, perfect in all its variations...I can imagine that this is how you see most of the world! What a wonderful image to dedicate to Corey; happy birthday from me too!

29 forever--there are SO many of us out there!! Happy Birthday, Corey!!

Superb shot and narrative. You guys definitely know how to celebrate - why restrict yourselves to only one day? Well done.

Great photo!!!!!!!!!!

I like the three separate parts of this image, especially knowing they aren't separate at all, and that they exist in the same place at the same time. You found the perfect place to stand, and this rocks! A most excellent picture for Corey's birthday day. :) Happy Birthday, Corey!

I particularly like the fact that you describe the light in tangerine terms as it surely make the image much more tasteful than the more-chemical terms like 'sodium vapor' or 'incandescent' would suggest. I love the 'do not feed' sign, kind of like society's last feeble attempt to clean the streets without actually cleaning the streets. My best wishes to Corey on his latest 29th!

At last I can begin to see how this EL thingey works! A wonderful composition, and I like the bloke descending the stairs..perfect.

This is brilliant! It works on several levels. The patterns and textures and lights make for a fascinating design experience. The overall image could easily be placed in the Atmosphere/Mood catgory. It speaks of private detectives and loneliness and potential danger. A stunning city shot. I can hear a saxaphone playing behind this scene.

Amazing shot.

OH; I like this shot very much. SO many details and levels too. Wonderful colors. You really did well, using this for a dedication to Corey. Love the story behind it too.

Gee Chip, all the good things I wanted to say have once again already been stated above and through far more artful language than I can usually manage:) I see the tangerine...is that lime I see above? This is a perfect Happy BD dedi for Corey. You all must have had a great weekend.

I do love your images! The way they hit me first with and overall WHAM! and then I stroll around them looking at all the wonderful details, coming full circle to enjoy the whole view now seeing the details too. There are several artists on RR whose work does this. Corey is another. Happy Belated Birthday, Corey! I love the three sections and that they are irregularly shaped areas of light, bordered by richly textured, rusty structures of wonderful patterns and light. I like the structure in the foreground on the left, which gives the area of light with the man coming down the stairs, an ice cream cone shape. His expression is great. The inexpressive expression of someone doing a familiar routine, not happy, not sad, just closed off in the repetition of the familiar. The bottom area of light, has a cathedral look about it with the arches of the supports and the golden glow. I can imagine the storefront windows as stained glass. A cathedral to the gods of transportation and shopping. I love the sign, because this is the last place I would think about feeding pigeons. I also love the totality of it. It is not saying don't feed THE pigeons which implies the ones HERE. It is saying DO NOT FEED PIGEONS. . . EVER. . . ANYWHERE! The barn shaped area of light has a very refined and elegant air. Here the gold is soft with a white tint, rather than the brassiness of the gold in the cathedral. I like the way this area shines out (elegantly) above the parallelograms and street scene below. Wonderful image! I like it very much!

What an interesting circular pattern to this photo - I like it! The eye just travels all over this to take in all the interesting.....stuff. :-D The stairs lead you up, then the light area at the top pulls the eye to the right, where the leading lines in the sodium-vapor lighted area brings you right back to the stairs... Brilliant, Chip! Now, I think I'm hearing those violins...... no wait...... it's a siren... Happy Birthday, Corey!

Brings back great memories of living in the windy city... many many years ago!

Oh I love this one! So many things are happening here. A complete night street view. And that "tangerine tinge" works wonder, adding a very warm feeling to the image. Great capture!

Fascinating lighting and composition Chipka!

Ah, yes, another great part of a fun weekend! This is a cool shot that really does capture what the "guts" of the "EL" look like for those unfamiliar with such things, albeit from a nicely off-kilter angle. I love the depth of field here and the way you've taken an already interesting shot and then added the nice bit of business with the fellow at the top of the stairs up in the corner. I also like the trademark "tangerine-ness" of the lighting with that nighttime urban vibe. And you've also managed to include one of the many dangers of urban photography with the downspout thingy in the extreme left corner. When I leaned against it to make a similar shot (from a different angle that wasn't nearly as cool as this one), it was loose and I nearly fell in the street! Of course being cursed with Sagittarius clumsiness, if it can be tripped over, crashed into, fallen in ETC... Anyway, I like this picture a lot and thanks for helping make my twentieth 29th birthday so much fun!

Ah, Sagittarians are the greatest people aren't they? - Ah-hem. The first thing my eyes were drawn to was that "DO NOT FEED PIGEONS" sign. Such a demanding statement and probably right out of the 50-60's era of the city. At least that's what it feels like. In Canada we long ago did away with such unilingual, must read signage in favour of european, symbolic look-understand displays. These normally include a red circle with a red line crossing the centre from right to left. I'm not sure how one would symbolize "DO NOT FEED PIGEONS" but I'm certain the reader might get the wrong idea - with regrettable outcomes. Thus we just let people feed the pigeons. I take you meaning about the lighting. Two sections of this photo seem to be from to separate universes. The one on the rise and the other in decine and neither the two mixing.

Stunning capture my friend. God Bless.
