Description

Angkor Wat is home to thousands of individual depictions of warriors and battles, animals and acrobats, gods and goddesses and mythical beasts. Inside its walls we find a royal portrait gallery with 1,796 women realistically rendered in stone. Apsaras, divine nymphs or celestial dancing girls, are characters from Indian mythology. Non-dancing female figures are known as Devatas, the Hindu term for Deity, who often serve as guardian angels. Over the centuries, many of these priceless artworks have been worn or all but obliterated by the elements or human predators. However, as you walk thru Angkor Wat, if you are lucky, you may come upon a small niche, protected from prying eyes and the elements, where you will find a beautiful Devata, as fresh as the day she was carved.

What for a filigree work, with love made! And the human predators - reverence does not belong to strengthen their human - have no joy in life because they have not understood the history and the message.

It must be just an incredible place to go. It seems so strange that it was lost in the forest for so long hiding such exquisite works as this. Beautiful.
