Salsa came to live with us a few weeks ago. Yes, I knew what I was getting into. She is a Green Winged Macaw-the third largest parrot in the world. Right now we are working on just getting to know each other and working on some training. She is a smart girl. Salsa came to us with an injured foot. Seems it was broken a long time ago, never set, and has healed all weird. Not much can be done now except rebreak and reset it which is a painful surgery. Since she seems to be getting around fine with it, we have opted not to have the surgery done. There is no guarantee surgery will be successful anyway. She has really bonded with me because I am the one who works with her. My husband and stepson are scared to death with her. Guess I don't blame them. That beak can exert 2000 psi. People often buy birds without doing research on them. Then they find out they are loud and can be destructive with wood and furniture plus a lot of patience is needed to train them. Often they are rehomed several times in their life. Not the best picture. Hope to get a better one uploaded soon.
