Description
Lund Cathedral, 2001
This is the front of Lund Cathedral, taken with my Olympus OM2 camera during late spring 2001. The negative was then scanned at the university computer center in 2004.
The cathedral dates from 1085 and is the last cathedral to be built in Europe in the Romanesque style (rounded arches and windows, massive walls, etc.). After this, the Gothic style was introduced to Europe by the Knights Templar from excavations made under the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
The Lund Cathedral was THE center of Christianity in Scandinavia until shortly before the Reformation, when more diocese were formed from the original huge Scandinavian one. With this, the catherdal's importance declined. It underwent a considerable restoration during the mid to late 1800s.
I've earlier posted images of the cathedral's crêche and Easter scenes here at Renderosity as Christmas and Easter greetings. I now feel it high time to show what the cathedral looks like.
Enjoy!

Nice to see this historic church building...and your image of it in its second or third life:) It looks small compared to later cathedrals but in its day it must have been considered gigantic.
