Centuries passed, the Only- the last creature alive in the universe, contemplated it's choices. As it cogitated its vast intelligence required greater and greater amounts of energy. Tentacles probed the surface of the planet, constructing neural pathways out of dumb matter. The Only's mental powers grew expotentially. Yet still, the Only could not escape from the fundamental problem: There was no escaping the end, unless you went back to the begining. The Accursed, from whom the Only had arose were masters in the art of Meme Warfare. This was an advanced form of warfare where potent and self-destructive ideas would be introduced into the enemy memesphere. More primitive races had relied on less direct means such as propaganda and indoctrination. Introducing a meme into your enemie's memesphere meant that ideas would suddenly appear in the public domain yet no one would know of their provenance. The effects could be dramatic- a bellicose nation brought to its knees within days of declaring war. Surrendering unconditionally whilst their entire war making infrastructure was intact. Such memes were quasi-autonimous creatures fixed to powerful motifs. These were usually animistic in nature the Mother, the Hunter, the Wolf. The Wolf- the Loup Garoux was the most powerful motif of all. The Accursed would project their motifs and the associated memes directly into the neural hardware of their enemies. Over time, the Only had improved on this and found a way to encode information into any substrate- even exotic particles such as tachyons. The Only sought to create a meme that would carry encoded within it, all the most powerfuls memes of Accursed Culture. More than that, the Only sought to perpetuate its own existence through the writing of the Word. The Word was the sum knowledge of all the Only knew. The Only knew that it was the last creature alive in creation. It was a sentient creature which meant that it reflected back on itself. And as the last recipient of all possible knowledge, the Only saw himself as the Universe reflecting back on itself. It saw itself as God, the Only God.
