Description

Happy Birthday my friend and many, many more. We were visiting our son Drew, his wife Keely and our granddaughter Maya. They have orchids hanging in their pool area. This is a Vanda Orchid and it is a genus, in the orchid family (Orchidaceae), which, although not large (about fifty species), is one of the five most horticulturally important orchid genera, because it has some of the most magnificent flowers to be found in the entire orchid family. The roots hang down about four feet and have to be sprayed every other day. Info from Wikipedia. Zoom has much better details. OMG, this never showed up in my e-bot mail! Thanks for pointing it out in your site mail, Dana. So embarrassing. In any event, many, many thanks for this super dedication in commemoration of my millionth birthday, my friend, and I feel every year of it. Excellent clarity and lighting in this shot of the beautiful bloom, and love the variations of purple, with the dark spotted textures contrasted against the lighter shades of the petals.
