Description

Titan Orbit: Mission CV & Service Vehicle This is an ongoing series; see Mars colony terraforming program image series links below. Titan mission Crew Vehicle (habitats retracted) and Mission Service Vehicle (below to left of center) in low orbit over Titan. Crew and Service Vehicle are nearly of the same scale, both have a maximum main body diameter of 265 feet and an Orion pusher plate diameter of 400 feet. Crew Vehicle length is 1350 Feet. Service Vehicle is 1325 Feet. The Service Vehicle is un-crewed and carries two landing craft in aero shells on either side of the fuel stack. One landing craft is a Methane/Nitrogen absorption rig – the other carries mission equipment for use on Titan’s surface. Image set-up in Celestia (to get the correct visual scale of Saturn as seen from Titan’s orbit). Celestia Render replaced with a higher resolution image shot from Cassini. Titan’s cloudy disk was created using a montage of photographic images of Earth shot from the ISS, creative photo-painting, and level adjustments to get the appearance of Titan’s yellow-orange photochemical smog. All models are my own. Models constructed in Bryce 6.5 and rendered in Bryce 7 Pro. Background photo credits NASA/JPL. As always thank you for your interest, thoughtful comments, and encouragement.

Wonderful to see a nice big render, this totally has to be seen full-size to appreciate it. The details in your modes, the fantastic view of the planet and the superb work on simulating a view of Titan is absolutely breath-taking at full-size. Wow!

very compelling near-future spaceship designs. I hope to see something like them in service before the end of the 21st century.
