Description

Back to the pictures from our trip to Lesbos in September 2011: with a friend’s help (thank you Nicolas M.), I finally completed the identification of the dragonflies… The Red-veined Darter (Sympetrum fonscolombii) is a dragonfly of the genus Sympetrum. It is a common species in southern Europe. Le sympétrum à nervures rouges (Sympetrum fonscolombii) est une des nombreuses espèces de libellules du genre sympetrum. The colour of this hits you, then the shape of its head! Looking in at the neck it head looks hollow! Superb shot!

These are so pretty! It takes extra skill to keep the entire dragonfly in perfect focus when you are taking the photo across the wings like that. This is a rare and wonderful shot.
