Description
I'm having fun with object based lighting in PPro2012. The scene is more than 80% lit by the candles and lamps. One point light set at 10% for a little extra ambient light.
I am having some problems with the Dynamic cloth robe- the sleeve seems to want to interact with the hip rather than fall straight down. Regrouping it?
Sorry I don't know all the vendors! DanaeMarfono? For Spirit Asylum, "NC" Heartpriest for the robe and wand/scepter. The skin is Daz Angel-plugged into a variation of an SSS shader posted by BagginsBill on the RDNA forum. The head ornament is from a character called Tanya from (?)

As a technical piece, this is very interesting and very good. While I'm pretty sure I see some of the blotches that make me frustrated by the low quality or slow speed of Poser's GI, the textures hide them beautifully. This is the perfect type of scene for this type of lighting. I think you did an excellent job of using the ambient light on the scene in general. Personally, I haven't been able to find a good balance of ambient intensity, falloff, and color. That said, I've used point lights for my candles, and had them work excellently, so I'm not without options. The only reason I might suggest experimenting with that method is the softer effect on the candles it can have. The candles look OK, but are so overexposed and have such strong contrasting in their shading that they're the most noticeable thing in the image. After that, the most eye catching thing is the sphere of the staff. And fifth is her face. But your composition implies that her face is supposed to be the focal point. The strong diagonals in the scene work very well. The make the scene more dynamic than the pose of the figure on its own. I'm not sure what's happening with that sleeve. Overall, it seems to have simmed very well. It shouldn't need regrouping, which would only be necessary if you wanted to create a group with special dynamics settings. Since in real life the sleeves would be the same fabric as the dress, that shouldn't be necessary. I would look at a few things. One would be the cloth density, which has a default of cotton or linen at 0.0050. The second would be to look at the timing. 30 frames is only 1 second, and if you have a lot of movement in 30 or less frames, the cloth will snap and bounce accordingly. The third would be to look at how the figure goes from the initial to final pose and make sure that the arm doesn't make the sleeve intersect anything it shouldn't. I wouldn't expect it to in this pose, but Poser sometimes does some weird stuff when it interpolates between poses. Hope that helps in the future!
