Description

Concept Radiance Village started out as my version of Babel-IIB, my favorite arcology design of Italian architect Paolo Soleri from his book "Arcology: The City in the Image of Man." That initial design was an enormous structure at about 1000 meters high. I then scaled back my design to a 75-story tower more like an environmentally friendly skyscraper than an arcology. Finally, I decided to recast Radiance Village as a building I would actually feel comfortable living in. The resulting design is a 20-story high structure with urban farming located in the three main hanging tiers. The building is covered in solar-panel paint, a product already under development and is surrounded by a ring of windmills. I believe something like Radiance Village could be built in the late 21st or early 22nd century. To convey that hope, I have replaced traditional ground vehicles with hovercraft of various kinds to supplement the magnetic-levitation trains that provide public transport. Rendering Style I want this project to express my hopes for our future on our precious planet. I rendered the images in a style reminiscent of the futuristic architecture images of John Berkey. The colors are deliberately bright and saturated. I want the images to look like hand painted architectural renderings rather than computer generated visualizations.
