Description
Captured 1/2/1012, around 7:40 AM, at a favorite park I visit for such misty effects.
Totally ZOOM eligible.
Normally, we're fortunate enough to get 3 or 4 days of foggy mornings in my area each year, usually during mid to late December. I'm up and about during those periods, because I love the atmosphere of dour foggy days, and, because of their rarity, feel a need to record them for posterity. The fog usually burns off completely at around 8:15 AM, so I have to get cracking before then for decent photos, especially since the park is located 1.5 miles away, and I walk, not drive, there.
Despite splitting the picture in half with the horizon line, a foto factor I believe is a no-no, I like the image, most notably the atmosphere, and didn't brighten it for fear of negatively affecting the mood. Anyway, this is just one of several shots I snapped there.
Shalom, thankx for coming by, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

How lovely the autumn leaves look in this beautiful misty capture. I would have thought they would be long gone by now but it is great to have them still. The mist gives this one a super atmosphere. Yes Christchurch was built on a swamp and sand dunes originally though they didn't know it was on a fault line as it hasn't moved for over a thousand years. They think they may have to shift the city now. Imagine the cost.

In other words - the early bird gets the worm! That really paid off then, from in my point of view - fog usually has something mystical about it and those leaves on the ground, actually resembling an amazing carpet pattern, are a bonus. BB

This is just GREAT--phooey on the horizon stuff; the tree and the leaves make it disappear. Wow!!

I like the mystery of this photo with the fog covering the background and the lovely carpet of golden leaves surrounding the tree. A super catch!

Wonderful on zoom! I love the layers, both horizontally and in depth. The depth seen from the bright, clearly defined leaves on the nearest tree to the fog blurred tree on the left, to the barely seen trees in the distance, is excellent. Beautiful colors and atmosphere. Superb shot, Harry!

Very amazing shot .. perfect display of fall colors and change in season with the fog and colors. Top shot.

I didn't know fog was so rare in LA, I'd have thought it more common, given the proximity to the ocean. But it's gorgeous whenever it comes; and this is one of your most beautiful fog captures. Yes, even in painting, horizons splitting a picture in half is problematic: But this picture really warrants it, because while the fog is the key element, so is the bed of leaves on the bottom half. It's a two part photo, and the "equal split" gives voice to both parts. And your tree breaks the 'boxiness' because you've cut off at top, allowing the branches to give a supporting "v," as if it's holding up the shot. It's beautiful. So the composition works totally for me, here. But the real triumph, for me, is the clarity of the shapes & hues---ie the leaves & grass---coming through so fully in such thick fog. A real contrast of obliterating mist with beautiful reds, yellows, violets & greens. And delicate detail on the tree's branches. A beautiful fog shot, Harry, one of the best I've seen here. Balanced, lush and mysterious.
