Description

I took this picture of my friend Allen in front of an interesting looking apartment entrance in Barcelona. It was in the middle of the day & the sunlight was very bright & not at all in the optimal place for the shot I wanted to take, but since we weren't planning to come back to that spot, I decided to just shoot it anyway. When I first looked at the resulting image, I decided it was way overexposed & forgot about it. Reviewing some of my Barcelona photos yesterday, I came across it & decided to see if I could salvage anything worthwhile from it. After some minimal work in Photoshop, this was the result. I'm pleased with it & hope you enjoy it as well. Some of the images I'm most happy with often are the result of happy accidents...

Well, I'll say this was worth the effort. If you had aimed only with only your friend in mind, I am sure the doorway and interior would have been a black hole (exposurewise). This is a very interesting image...and it makes me think how I would setup to take such a shot. I don't know the answer yet...maybe two shots and a cut and paste job:)

This is terrific! You remind me that sometimes the light is just the light, just the way it is, and it doesn't have to be "photo perfect" in order to be just right! I love the brilliant light. It tells me something about that location, about how the light shines there, about how it might be to live in that place, to come and go at all hours of the day. I probably couldn't get a shot like this if I tried, but those happy accidents ... wow ... this turned out great! I'm glad you decided to revisit the image.
