Sevaril - Chapter 7
Darkhawk and Iphis quickly entered the basement and thru a secret door followed a long tunnel, deep below the houses and streets of Nedon.
After a few minutes they moved up a lot of stairs, carved out of the solid rock - and suddenly they were outside the town in a dense wooden landscape under the light of the Moon ..
Iphis: So we do what when get to the meeting place?...
Darkhawk: I'm sure my brother has something on his mind...I know him!...This place here...it should be haunted by the souls of the ancient good-like race who lived before our world existed!...
Iphis: Are you, a demon worried about old ghosts?...They are dead long ago...
Darkhawk: Afraid? No...but I can sense some weird powers...These ancient ones are said to have be much more powerful than our greates wizards magical powers today..it's should be only a tiny bit of it...
Iphis: I don't know much of magic...Which way?...
Darkhawk: East!...Do you see the three big oaks?...You're in good shape, Iphis - a race to the trees?..
Iphis: Yeah, don't wasting time!...See you!..
With a tremendous suddenly speedy footwork, Iphis hastily moved away from Darkhawk before she could react.
Darkhawk: Hey, cheater!...
Even with the use of her long legs Darkharwk had to work hard to get up to Iphis again.
Darkhawk: How did you..learn to run..like this?...
Iphis: Hard work!...When..I was..eleven I..outran every boy..in the village...at twelve I beated the same bunch.. in hand fight...
They reached the oaktrees and stopped..
Iphis: ..Then no one ever said something bad about nor me or my step father...I was regarded as a weirdo...read lots of books and had lots of discussions with my teacher, Pentwahir...When I was nine I started training with weapons, secretly...and all the other time I helped my father with his crops and such thing...
Darkhawk: Never a boring life...
They continued eastwards, now more slowly walking.
Iphis: It was fun!..I learned a lot...became friends with the blacksmith and helped him sometimes...
Darkhawk: A very competent girl, I see...
Iphis: I do not think in this way..Pentwahir opened my eyes for a lot of things but something inside me wanted this,too! And Pentwahir never said no..and Eamund, my step father supported me even when the villagers tried to persuade him to make me become more "girl-like"...
Darkhawk: Ha!..You remind me quite a bit of ME...what about..a boyfriend, then?...
Iphis: No!..I have other things to do..and I'm only twenty...
Darkhawk: I have the same problem..but this is because, if I kiss a man he will die instantly!...By the way what do you think of Nightshade, my brother?...
Iphis: He wants to take command all the time...huh?
Darkhawk: Maybe, but he is a very...caring man...I owe him my life, so...I tell you some day...Let's keep going - we have around two hours walk to the meting place...
