Description

Dear friends, I hope you have had asome fine christmas days or holidays, whereever you are living. Thanks for your nice greetings! My best wishes for you all for 2012! I hope this will be a good year for you and yours and for me, too! I will start again where I ended in 2011: In Saxony, in the wonderful gothic dome of Meissen. Please notice now this fine sculptures: At the right side king OTTO I. "The Great", who became later the first german emperor, crowned in Rome by the pope. At the left side his wife ADELHEID, the empress. These persons we call "father and mother" of the germans. They were although the founder of the diocese of Meissen. This sculptures are installed directly at the side of the altar to remember the bishop, the priests and all the holy men here were the money came from for their celebrations, hihi... The sculptures are as high as normal humans; they are stone carvings which were later painted with colors. There were produced in Naumburg in Thuringia at about 1250 A.D. Many cities built their cathedrals in this time, and their architecture bureaus were often specialised. The Naumburg dome house was very famous for their stone carvers and the great realism of its sculptures. Please notice the great realism here, too: It seems as Adelheid tells her husband a joke.... Sculptures like this is the best that the old Germany can offer. Good night for the moment! Hope you enjoy....

They are greatly carved, yes sir! I wonder how they could do so much beauty in the past and why sculptors do not try to do it now.

This is a lovely capture which is not always easy in churches etc. Even better in zoom.

Erinnert mich ein wenig an Madame Tussauds in den Kinderschuhen. So realistisch. Das ist wahrlich ganz große Kunst. Schön, dass diese Kunstwerke erhalten und restauriert wurden. Himmlisch....
