Description

we went to a store in the city in Mexico and they have a jewel store close by and as we drove off after we went in the store I noted the armed guard outside the store and took this shot. My friend say the guard is there because of the jewel store. I did get some photos of the guard wen I was outside the store and was not in the car rideing, but I like this photo of the guard. I did see one in a back of a truck standing up and he had a machine gun as they was parking the truck but I did not have my camera ready. my friend say that this part of Mexico do not have the crime as other parts of Mexico have. As far as he knew on two people got killed here last year in Cozumel. In my town going by the size of the city I live in it one of the highest murder cities in Louisiana. Of course the bigger cities like baton Rouge and New Orleans have very high murder rates much higher only because they are bigger than Lake Charles. I like this photo as it looks surreal to me

Guns at the ready for any eventuality, Jock. No way do I go south of the border. Los Angeles is bad enough.

I was in the Philippines in the early 70's and this was a common site. Good point of view. ;-)

Great shot Jock, but I agree with Mikeerson. Be careful if you aren't in USA. Some private guards are easy trigger, and donĀ“t like cameras. Last year, in my country, two guards killed two people because incredibly trivial reasons: One killed a taxi driver for not paying a dollar for parking, and the other got killed because he went to the store several times in one day and the guard shot him because he thought he wanted to rob the store. The two were convicted, of course, but that is no consolation to the families of the dead.

oh yeah. as a young kid i dreamed of visiting jerusalem and walk on biblic grounds. but with what is going on in the middle east i think i will never see these places. and i would not feel well in the company of so many armed men. police presence ok gives me a feel of security but this ??never.

Cool capture and motif, Jock. Very nice surreal effect. A bit sad to see that there are so much violence, that even armed guards are needed. A rough place, Mexcico. Maybe gang wars made it even worse.+5

A sad reality but indeed makes for a wonderful image! It's becoming scary to walk on the streets of so many tourist places now... even with the guards, or should I say especially with the guards. Great expression as well! Definitely portrays that feeling of "fear" and the need to keep walking straight....
