Description
I spent a cold, overcast day at the USS Intrepid museum in the city this weekend to test the new external flash for my camera. Actually the camera was just an excuse to wander through the exhibits of this fascinating vessel. My father worked on this and other Navy aircraft during the second world war,but his stories never conveyed how large an aircraft this torpedo bomber is. From the ground it is huge!
Photo taken in the Intrepid's Hangar deck, the rear turret can be partially seen beyond the propellor.
Thanks for viewing.

That's a place I would love to explore. Very nice job on this.

Superb shot - I've visited the USS Midway Museum in San Diego, I'd love to visit the Intrepid.

"in the City" ! have they moved it from Pier 86? :-) Cool picture of a very cool and as you point out 'large' plane...can't get over how small that torpedo is ! Certainly looks a rugged beast....any more from this visit would be very welcome....great pic, great share, big thanks....

:D Thanks Neil, yes I had to travel to the city (where the piers are lol) to visit this vessel. It's too bad the Avenger had its wings folded, would have loved to see it in take off stance. I took a number of pictures on this, the flight deck and the pier where the British Airways SST is parked. Now that's a way to fly.

Big plane, big sound! Back in the 90's we still had an "active squadron" for forestry & pest control work. The only thing better than the rumble of one of those big radials, is a bunch of them singing in unison! Great photo!

So size does... or doesn't matter with torpedoes? Not much deterrance there it seems? ;-) But a remarkable plane nonetheless.
