Hi, I am Sig (junge1),
I was born in Dominikus- Krankenhaus in Berlin-Hermsdorf, Bezirk Reinickendorf in December 1939. Bezirk Reinickendorf was one of 20 Bezirke that made up Gross-Berlin before World War II and one of 12 Bezirke that made up former West-Berlin, the other 8 Bezirke were Russian occupied and became East-Berlin after the war. Moved from Berlin to Neurohlau (Nova Role) Sudetenland (now Czech Republic), in August 1943 (our entire block of apartment buildings was bombed out in November 1943) and returned back to Berlin in November 1945. Saw my dad the first time in my life in August/September 1946 after he returned from POW camp. Attended elementary school in Berlin-Waidmannslust, high school in Berlin-Hermsdorf, and trade school in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Was an apprentice for the trade of Klischeeaetzer (photo engraver) at Burrath & Schmidt on Friedrichstrasse between U-Bahnhof Kochstrasse (near to what later became Checkpoint Charlie) and Hallisches Tor.
While watching Allied planes supplying West-Berlin by air during the Berliner Luftbruecke in 1948-49 I developed my love for aircraft. I guess I could be considered a 'Berliner Grosschnauze", or at least I used to be.
'Wanderlust' led me to leave Berlin in summer 1960 to emigrate to Toronto, Canada and in February 1962 to move from Canada to New York City, NY, USA. In January 1963 I joined the United States Air Force, one step ahead of Uncle Sam drafting me. Became a United States citizen within 7 weeks after it became a security issue because of my military career. One day after I was sworn in as a citizen in Seattle, my entire unit left for Southeast Asia in June 1966. After nearly 5 years of active duty (extended 11 months to make it an 18 months overseas deployment) I got discharged and moved to New York City. In 1973 I moved to Phoenix, Arizona and two years later joined the Arizona Air National Guard.
Received my higher education at Arizona State University and the University of Georgia and worked for 22 years for the Arizona Department of Water Resources in various capacities. Upon military retirement in 1999 and State retirement in 2005 I looked at a number of things to keep me occupied. Traveling and joining 'renderosity' in September 2007 were a couple of them,
Sig..

Ah, white sand and surf...looks great. You could sell this for the front cover of a holiday brochure. Like your panoramic view...much to see.

Last year when Bill and I went to Fort Worden we saw a couple other people on the beach. Of course it's too cold to swim in the Straits, but still. It was very nice to be mostly alone on a wide sandy beach. This looks beautifully warm, though, and that surf is gorgeous!

According to one life guard they had to rescue a couple of people already and it was only noon. Not surfers, but people that waded into the water where they were not supposed to. There was a strong undercurrent! The life guards were busy!

This is the way I will always remember Bondi, when I lived in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney and spent serious sunbathing/baking time there, in the 70's & 80's ... ;) looking straight ahead (South-end) is the Bondi Iceberg pool, club and restaurant - very special for the local members. Every day do people get into trouble, because they don't swim between the flags (mainly tourists, who ignore the warning signs). perfect capture of another one of our icons. BB

Very nice shot of it all.

Beautiful mate. It can be a deceptively dangerous beach for the unwary.

Not enough sand for all these people. But matters of taste as good. But beautiful beach ((5 + +)) Not enough sand for all these people. But matters of taste as good. But beautiful beach ((5 + +))

OK, I have studied this picture for a VERY long time with a VERY big magnifying glass and I can see none of the vast beached whales visible on British (or indeed European) beaches! Now, this is meant as a true compliment to the way Australians look after themselves and a slap in the face at some people that unveil their blubber for all to see her in the U.K. Nice! Well shot! Rob And this is not meant as a unpleasant dig folks but look....

Gorgeous photo with lovely color and postwork. If you made the water a coffee-and cream color, added a few oil blobs and decaying jellyfish on the sand, flattened out that hill and took out a few buildings, it would look just like a spot in Galveston I used to go to when I was a kid. :-)

Wonderful capture of this beautiful beach!!!

The beach was very clean and so was the water. As a matter of fact Sydney was clean and so was every city I visited. And I felt save, of course there is always a chance that one falls victim to a 'Crime of Opportunity', but common sense and normal precautions can prevent this. As too the crowded beach? It was easy on the eyes seeing all those young ladies working on their tans lol!

Splendid place! Wonderful shot! :)

Very nice shot! Don't agree with debbielove though, even beached whales have a right to enjoy the sun! Beaches were not made for the perfect few among us.

Thats a popular beach! Great shot - never been on a beach with that many people.

It is such a famous beach but far too crowded for my liking. This is a super clear photograph of it.
