My name is Clive, resident in Cape Town, South Africa. I am an amateur photographer who has been enjoying the medium in a more serious manner since 2003.
I took a trip to the UK armed with a Minolta Maxxum 7000 that I had inherited from my Dad.
Out of the holiday snaps, I managed to get a few that I felt were quite good, but had no idea of how I managed to get them 'right'.
Since then I have done a couple of courses in the darkroom and joined a local photographic society where I was on the committee for a while.
Hopefully I am getting it 'right' more often these days.
I have a Minolta Maxxum 7 and being tied into the lens system, the Sony A100 DSLR was my introduction to the digital world. This has recently been upgraded to the Alpha SLT-A55 and I have to admit that I have shot more digital in the last five years than film!
My daughter Kristen (Kris10) and son Sean (fotoSean) have accounts here too, in the hope that they will learn too and share my passion! Sadly they have been rather quiet of late, much like their dad...
August 2015 marks the end of my 3 years as coordinator for the Photographic section of Renderosity. What a wonderful time of my life that I thoroughly enjoyed! Thank you all for the opportunity!
Keep the smile alive,
Clive

Stunning capture Clive. God Bless.

It's not so much a case against skinny dipping as it's a case of safety from previous bad experiences. Imagine hitting a big wave or a storm while in the pool at midnight, and nobody's there to help you out of the pool with the pool water sloshing violently back and forth as the ship heaves and rolls! On such good slosh back and forth and you've either drowned or had every bone in your body smashed against the pool's sides. A ship in even mild waves can result in very much sloshing back and forth in the pool. As for the photo - great job! Unusual view of a ship's deck and superstructure. The lighting is great, warm and welcoming. Keep up the good work! :-)

Very interesting Clive. I can't say I have ever swam in a pool on a boat!

I wondered about Michael's theory of emptying the pools at night, but it seems that's just the policy of the ship you were on. Cruise ships close the pools whenever they're expecting rough seas, no matter the hour. I found a most interesting bit of information here. If you scroll down far enough, you'll see a video that shows how much the pool water (at night, btw) sloshes around when the boat starts to pitch a bit. Yikes!

nice details and night capture

I've always been amused at the thought of hauling pools of water on top of the sea... Love this POV and the late-night atmosphere!
