Description

A test render my model of the Japanese Kawanishi Type 97 flying boat- this time in its military form. To give it some flexibility I've made this model with a choice of two cockpit roofs, this version is the flat-roofed H6K4 for use in renders related to the attack on Broome, and another for the H6K5 in case I ever get that way inclined. When a lone H6K crossed the Timor Sea and appeared over Broome in Western Australia on March 2nd, 1942... it could surely only mean one thing. "Trouble" was coming. I'm probably biased but I think the Type 97 or "Mavis" to the Allies is easily one of the most "aggressive" looking flying boat designs ever concieved even if it probably qualifies as an "old clunker" by later standards of flying boat aviation. The Type 97 "ruled the roost" in South-East Asia in the years just prior to war breaking out and during the first telling months of Japan's expansion into the Pacific. However once serious numbers of newer Allied aircraft arrived in the Pacific it soon emerged that just about anything with wings could shoot the Type 97 down. It was quickly pulled out of front line duty and replaced by the tougher H8K "Emily." Modelled in Shade 10.5 Rendered in Vue 8 Esprit Thanks for viewing and comments

Can't argue with you on how aggressive this looks...bit of a crocodile if you remove the wings...definitely a monster.Another great model and nice texture job. "and another for the H6K5 in case I ever get that way inclined.".. :-) forward thinking...I like it !

An agressive looking aircraft indeed but also slightly graceful as most flying boats are. Very good modelwork :-)

Very nice model...and the fuselage does have the look of a dragon I think...crocodile, like Neil said, definitely....and pugnacious as well. If aggressive means looking for a fight, this baby has it.
