Description

This is the harbor region in the Old City "Keleici" of Antalya. This is the harbor that was built by the Greek founders. Later occupied by the Romans you can see the remnants of a 2nd century C.E. Roman defensive sea wall on the right. This is the port that Paul of Tarsus sailed from on his way to Antioch in eastern Turkey. It is called Old City because it is the area of the city surrounded by the ancient land and sea walls. After the conquest of the city by the Turks in the 13th century, the Christian inhabitants of the city lived in this area and were locked in every night. Once the heart of a thriving international port, this old harbor now supports modern marinas with floating resteraunts and bars. It is a beautiful spot to stop and have a beer and just watch the lovely, colorful flotilla that now occupies the site. Previous Antalya

You always find the greatest vantage points for your shots, Roxy. You have a real talent for that and for capturing the 'feel' and 'panorama' of these things. It does indeed look like a great place to hang out and have a drink or two :) So much history there!

Very cool shot. A lot of detail packed in to this picture. Another great contrast between the old and the new. That big tour boat with the shark's face is kind of funny too. And I guess beach umbrellas in the place of canopies work too. Great pic and good info.

Great pic, Roxy! I've seen your comment on Rayvn's picture. About Alexandria, have you seen the film "Agora"? It is about intolerance, religeous intolerance and discrimination about women. Cheers Odile
