Description

Angkor Wat lies just outside the town of Siem Reap. We spent some time seeing the town and part of the countryside. One day we stopped at this building. Just an ordinary building. Nothing special. In 1975 this was a school. When we visited in 2000 it was a dormitory for young Buddhist monks. Just an ordinary building. Nothing special. From 1975 thru 1979 this was the place where the citizens of Siem Reap were brought to be questioned and tortured and murdered. This became the killing field for Siem Reap. Just an ordinary building. Nothing special. This day would be the saddest one I spent in Cambodia.

my heart hurts from reading how this building, once used for learning, was transformed into a den of horrors for the people of Siem Reap. I am so glad that it is now used for the peaceful purpose of housing monks

I do not know what the Buddhist monks feel living there, but I think that the buildings saved the vibrations of what has happened into them. Once I went to a beautiful building in which people were also tortured in the past and I had to leave there because I lacked the breath and felt anguish. I could not live there.
