My name is Clive, resident in Cape Town, South Africa. I am an amateur photographer who has been enjoying the medium in a more serious manner since 2003.
I took a trip to the UK armed with a Minolta Maxxum 7000 that I had inherited from my Dad.
Out of the holiday snaps, I managed to get a few that I felt were quite good, but had no idea of how I managed to get them 'right'.
Since then I have done a couple of courses in the darkroom and joined a local photographic society where I was on the committee for a while.
Hopefully I am getting it 'right' more often these days.
I have a Minolta Maxxum 7 and being tied into the lens system, the Sony A100 DSLR was my introduction to the digital world. This has recently been upgraded to the Alpha SLT-A55 and I have to admit that I have shot more digital in the last five years than film!
My daughter Kristen (Kris10) and son Sean (fotoSean) have accounts here too, in the hope that they will learn too and share my passion! Sadly they have been rather quiet of late, much like their dad...
August 2015 marks the end of my 3 years as coordinator for the Photographic section of Renderosity. What a wonderful time of my life that I thoroughly enjoyed! Thank you all for the opportunity!
Keep the smile alive,
Clive

If I were captain, I'd have that brass polished;-) A little Brasso does wonders. How about the grab lines on the lifeboat being for recovering people in the water? Great stuff Clive.

That's a good shot, and twin screws for the lead boat too. I love the old patina on the props. The reflectors can be very important. I once plucked two people out of a very cold large lake after a storm had capsized their sailboat. I only just barely saw it in the distance as the blue hull rather matched the water. The woman could only barely speak but I eventually got her to tell me that she had a husband who had started to swim to shore. I couldn't see him at all but I headed straight to shore and picked him up about half way there. I think he might have made it but she would have been gone by then. I later retrieved their boat, along with their lifejackets which were still underneath the hull, in pristine shape and still floating magnificently as they had been designed to do. Since it was sunny at the time, reflectors may have made this hull more visible to me, and I had the only boat on the lake at the time, so I was happy that I did see them.

Fascinating.

Another wonderful compo, Clive; and how nice to know exactly what you're dealing with when it comes to lifeboats!
