Description

Wayne (whaleman) made a comment about the propellers on the lifeboats being small and that there must be one with a bigger prop to lead the rest. Quite right, Wayne, this is how they got around that issue! This is the underside of lifeboat 13. They also have grab rails just below the waterline and reflective strips. I guess this is all in event of the craft being capsized. It was a bit disconcerting while first aboard that ever TV on the ship was tuned to news channels showing the grounded ship in the Mediterranean... Clive

Ho! Ho! Jayfar! lol Yes, its going to fill the news for some time to come I'm afraid.. And even more as they are ALL waiting for it to slip under the waves! Either that Company (bad!) or the Captain is in such deep brown stuff! But on the whole its a really safe way to holiday! Good shot mate.. rob

If I were captain, I'd have that brass polished;-) A little Brasso does wonders. How about the grab lines on the lifeboat being for recovering people in the water? Great stuff Clive.

That's a good shot, and twin screws for the lead boat too. I love the old patina on the props. The reflectors can be very important. I once plucked two people out of a very cold large lake after a storm had capsized their sailboat. I only just barely saw it in the distance as the blue hull rather matched the water. The woman could only barely speak but I eventually got her to tell me that she had a husband who had started to swim to shore. I couldn't see him at all but I headed straight to shore and picked him up about half way there. I think he might have made it but she would have been gone by then. I later retrieved their boat, along with their lifejackets which were still underneath the hull, in pristine shape and still floating magnificently as they had been designed to do. Since it was sunny at the time, reflectors may have made this hull more visible to me, and I had the only boat on the lake at the time, so I was happy that I did see them.

Another wonderful compo, Clive; and how nice to know exactly what you're dealing with when it comes to lifeboats!
