Description

As one may suspect there are many beaches along this coastline, but not all beaches are created equal. Some are sandy and expansive, others have no high tide line for they are along a headland that only supports a sliver of a beach. Kind of like the later where the tide washes the beach daily. There are beaches that are designated for off road vehicles. There are black sand beaches, black rock beaches, beaches where the wave slope is so vast it supports lagoons on the beach. Could continue on, but I'm sure you get the idea. On this day I took the kids to the south spit. This area sports a vast range of sand dunes, and it also has a jetty. Of course the kids love exploring the jetty with all it's nooks and crannies. Upon calling them back to leave my son kept one of his hands clenched shut while loading back into the truck. After a bit of coaxing, this little fellow got dropped back onto the beach. Poor fellow was covered in so much sand I doubt it could see. So grabbing one of the kids sand pails I got some water to free the encumbered crab. Upon rinsing off this crustacean and seeing the shine and color I could not resist a shot or two, even if I don't have a macro lens. To the kind souls that leave their mark whether a comment, rating, or save the image as a fav, you are very much appreciated, thank you!!! Thank you all that viewed my last image below. thumb_2293602.jpg

Fantastic image! Zoom is a must. I think your rescue was appreciated. There is definitely a smily face on that crab.

Good on you for saving this little fella. He has a lovely soft earthy color that perfectly compliments the sand.
